First Week on the Road

In my ‘backyard’ aka Lake Ouachita

Hi guys! Hope you had a wonderful weekend. I’m happy to report that today marks the first week of my RV travels and so far things are going really well! Woohoo 🙂

After three weeks of being parked in our friend’s driveway, Mark and I were finally ready to hit the road. On August 22, we headed out for our first campground in Denison, which is right outside of Dallas, Texas. Our main objective was to get away from the rain and get some miles between us and Austin. We managed to find some sunshine there, but didn’t want to stick around Texas too long, so we quickly made our way to Hot Springs, Arkansas, where we camped for a few days.

Our next stop is Kentucky, but we’re not quite sure exactly where yet. That’s a big part of what I love about this adventure – the spontaneity of picking a new place to visit. All we know right now is that we want to make it to Maine by the time the fall leaves start to change colors. Other than that, we didn’t create a plan or a travel schedule. We’re taking it one day at a time and we feel like this is the best way for us to do it at this point. Whether it’s how to do something for the first time, do something more efficiently, or improve our experience of something, we’re learning something new everyday. We want to keep things flexible so that we can make more informed decisions as we gain more experience. This may change later on and I’m not saying that this is the best way for everybody.

All of the preparation and getting ready for this trip really took a lot of effort, but it was all worth it. I love my new lifestyle so far! I’m spending a lot more time outdoors exploring new places. In a way this actually balances out all of the time I usually spend cooped up inside in front of the computer. Then when I do get on the computer, I feel more focused on my projects and less burnt out. Of course there are some things that I need to get used to, such as the tiny shower and the nonexistent bathtub. But I’m willing to give up those little luxuries for now.

Speaking of getting ready for the trip…I wanted to thank every single one of you who donated to my travel fund and helped make this happen more smoothly! You guys are the best! I am so grateful to you guys for all that you do for me.

Anyway, here are a few of photos from my first week on the road. We did a bunch of hiking, some swimming, reading, and of course, driving. I promise to take more photos in the future! I’m still trying to get adjusted and figuring out my daily routine, so I apologize for the lack of updates.
